Bike Handling Tips

FALL RIDING

October, in my opinion, offers some of the most beautiful scenery & weather. Even in San Francisco, where we have an over adundance of Fog and cold days, it's marvelous.

Indian Summer days are terrific for riding, enjoying nature and just clearing your head.

So, hoping that we will get more warmth & Sun before Winter hits us. It's always more enjoyable to ride when you're not all bundled up like an Eskimo and fingers feel like they're gonna snap off.

Happy Halloween!!!

Nike Women's Marathon - Sunday, October 17, 2010

Great Highway will be CLOSED from 4 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday 10/17/10.

So if you typically use Great Highway plan another route.

Thanks!

Street Closure - Nike Women's Marathon - 10/17/2010

It is now Friday, October 15th (2 days before the event) and no one including 311 can find information about which routes and/or streets will be closed during the Nike Women's Marathon.

Yes, the triangular signs with florescent lettering are tagged on the streets posts that state NO PARKING etc.. but do I see a single notice stating alternate routes or a closure of Great Highway? I am all for charitable events like this, since we a non-profit, community based group, but let's disseminate ROAD CLOSURE information better, there are those that need to get out of the city and go to work.... But, as usual, the agencies contracted or hired to inform the public can't because MTA hasn't updated their information and circulated to the powers that be (e.g. 311, Police Department etc...). And, frankly NIKE doesn't have anything on there website.

Let's prepare better for next year and post on all websites ROAD CLOSURES well in advance and not the night before or having to guess by looking at a year old article. And, make the NOTICE OBVIOUS. Should not have to hunt for information, it should be on the 1st Page.

Thank you!

UPDATE: Just received, Even Harding Park Golf Course can alert people to Road Closures but
not MTA or Nike Site - http://mail.aol.com/32797-111/aol-1/en-us/Suite.aspx

The Big RIDE

~ Our Team: Marjie, Rose, Renee, Bil (aka Dot) & Kathy ~

First, I want to thank every Member on Our Team who Participated and Supported this very important cause in Fighting to Find A Cure for Lung Cancer and Lung Related Diseases and For Clean Air by getting out the word, diligently fundraising, putting in countless hours, putting up with me, and helping me and others like me to Remember Their Loved Ones by supporting this Cause.

Next, we want to SINCERELY THANK EVERYONE who DONATED & SPONSORED us along this marvelous journey. You are our Angels and you were right there sitting on our shoulders Cheering Us On! Thank you from the bottom of Our Hearts!

Mere words cannot express how proud and appreciative I am to have you all in my Life!!!

Our Goal was to raise $2000 and to date we have all raised $1,900.00. We still are hoping to meet our goal and the Ride has given us the opportunity to do this by extending the Fundraising date to July 23rd. We have a few other donations coming in and I am confident that we will meet this goal and perhaps even exceed it!

Now that the Road Grime has finally been washed off and we have somewhat settled back into our everyday routine, but wish it could be like that scene from Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, again and again, we'll just have to settle for gearing up for next year and find something else to fill our days, like spending time with our friends and loved ones.

We had a wonderful day, the weather was perfect (light breeeze, temps in the high 70's to low 80's, next day was in the 100's), company marvelous, low traffic on the roads, no one was hurt, no leg cramps thanks to Zym, great music & food at the Festival and a good time was had by all!

Marjie had signed up for the 12 Mile leg & decided to try the 30 Miler & she did FANTASTIC. Now she'll have to do the 66 next year.

CONGRATS Marjie, you're a Road Warrior!

Kathy, Marjie & I will get Rose & Bil to do the 30 or maybe we'll shoot for the 100 (riggggght) so we can experience the pain together, hee-hee!

ZYM

We thank our Sponsor, Zym, for generously donating these amazing products.

Zym is superior to other products because "the formulas we design for endurance athletes sets ZYM apart from other sports drinks. ZYM's blend of electrolytes, B Vitamins and other elements make it effective against muscle burn and dehydration while leaving out the excess sugar. This provides athletes with fresh legs, natural energy and more endurance so they can perform their best."

All you have to do to make Zym your go to product is, "Drop it, Dissolve it, Down it."

Many thanks to Brian Koff (CEO) and Michael Koff (Marketing) for helping us on our journey and their Support to help us Fight for Clean Air, Finding a Cure for Lung Cancer & Lung Related Diseases.

Golden Gate Bridge

As a Native Californian, I have never rode my bicycle across the Golden Gate Bridge so, this past Saturday, June 19, 2010 I finally rectified that situation. Unfortunately, I picked one of our VERY WINDY days. People were being blown around, kids were crying, but all in all it was FUN, FUN, FUN and if I ever had a bucket list, I could mark this off....

Look at the poor little Girl behind me. Coming around this corner the wind almost knocked her off her bike, scared her and made her cry.

Poor Baby!

A lovely couple from Las Vegas took this for me.

To quote one of our Sponsors (Blazing Saddles Bike Rentals), "Bike The Bridge," and I did, Yee-Ha!

What a beautiful Bridge!

SHAKE CITY, how the bridge might look during an Earthquake, remember the 1st Superman movie?

How Our Participation All Began:

Since, Mom passed away 2001, I have been wanting to do something to get involved in fighting and speaking out for Lung Cancer victims but never had, until my childhood friend talked me into doing this Climb. Well, Thank God, Kathy conned me into this! Since, we are gluttons for punishment, we are gearing up to Climb again.

Come Join us for our 2nd Annual Climb to The Top of the Bank of America Building to Support the FIGHT FOR AIR....

I was so scared that I would end up with Rubber Legs, not be able to move the next day or worse yet not make it all the way, NOT the case. We did it and gee, Kathy & I and Bil were surprised on how quickly we made it to the top. Believe me, we were'nt pushing it, we stopped for the water breaks and to catch our breath. What I'm trying to express is that, if I can do it, you certainly can. It's so worth it to know that you can accomplish something that some might take for granted. Oh and if this isn't enough incentive to join us, don't worry there are all age and fitness levels doing this climb... You just take one step at a time and go at your own pace!

Obviously, we survived and lived to tell the tale. And, boy what a tale it is? 52 flights = 1197 Stairs, we completed in approximately 35 minutes, LOVE the view at the top at the Carnelian Room (which sadly closed January 1, 2010), enjoyed good entertainment, food and fellow Climbers and all for a Great Cause!!!

Come JOIN THE FUN!!!
