STAIR CLIMB SF for AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATON - MARCH 29, 2014 - PLEASE SUPPORT US!

http://action.lung.org/site/TR/Climb/ALACA_California?px=4154941&pg=personal&fr_id=8590

Hello All,

We're back to support and continue the fight for those who cannot.

As many of you may know, my dear Mother Donna passed away in 2001 from Lung disease.  Since doing this event, I have known and met countless people who have lost a loved one to Lung disease (not just to Lung Cancer).  It is astonishing how many people are effected by one lung disease or another.

I pray that by participating in this event we can built more exposure, awareness and a greater need for financial support to find a cure for ALL lung related diseases.

So, please support me/us and the American Lung Association in the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air.

Your generous donation to my/our Fight for Air Walk/Climb will help save lives today and keep America healthy tomorrow.

Because no one should struggle to breathe!

Thanks from our Team,
Oceanside Air Masters - Renee, Kathy and Team

Wine Country Century ~ Santa Rosa

This last weekend was our 3rd Annual ride at the Wine Country Century 2012 put on by the Santa Rosa Cycling Club - http://srcc.memberlodge.com/

WOO HOO! ~ ARE WE READY TO RIDE?
This is a terrific event not just because it is in the gorgeous Wine Country. It is professional, very well organized, fully supported, the food is fantastic at the Rest Stops and the BBQ at the end. And, finally the people participating in the ride and volunteering on the day of the event are friendly and excited being there and engaging with others.

We have done other rides that are good to very good, but this is definitely one that we look forward to doing year after year.

Apparently, we are not the only ones who agree. Very quietly the word goes out to get your entrance, as they limit to 2500 riders.  If you miss this notification or don't follow, you sadly don't get a ticket. However, not to fret, alot of times, people are not able to attend the event in May, so they post their ticket(s) for sale on places like Craigslist. That is how we had to get ours last year. Lucky us! :) However, one of our friends was on top of it and got our tickets, Yee-Ha!

SAG, WE NEED YOU?
At any rate, we signed up to do the 100 K but all of us weren't quite up to par.

Myself, I felt kinda sluggish for the first 15 miles until the first rest stop and ate. As soon as I ate, it was like the light switch went on, wow! If I had been feeling this good the first 15; I would have ridden the 100K.

Despite flying cell phones, sluggish riders, blisters, jet lag and having to use our MacGyver Rode Skills, a GREAT time was had by all.

VOILA, FIXED FOR NOW, LOL!
After all, every rider has his/her day! And it is important to remember, it is NOT A RACE!
It is intended to be good, clean, healthy, fun! And that it was!

HAPPY DAYS!
Thank you Santa Rosa Cycling Club for another Fantastic Event!

See you all Next Year!

It is supposed to be perfect weather, high 70's / 80's and no wind (let's hope, except a light breeze), Woo Hoo!

Hoping to do the 100K but may only do 35 miler, wish us luck!  Will post pictures upon my return.

BEAR ADVICE

My Bear Friends are not only experts when it comes to Picnic Baskets and the Forest but they are great at givng sound advice on other matters like "sharing the rode."

So, here is their "Advice for the Day:"

When out and about and enjoying a Walk, Run or Bike Ride and using Public Paths and Walkways that allow us to share with eachother, please remember these simple, common sense Rules:

1) Be aware of your Surroundings and Listen to what is going on around you, even if you are texting, chatting on the phone or with a friend by your side or listening to your music

2) Follow the SINGLE  File Rule - When people are approaching from the other direction, drop behind eachother, DON'T take up the entire path and DON'T continue to walk abreast.

Not only is this inconsiderate but it is dangerous

3) Let someone know you are going to pass them by announcing your intent by stating clearly and loudy but politely, "On Your Left or Rignt."  Also, if you have a bell on your bike, chime it!
But, don't assume that they'll understand or hear you, so repeat the process, if necessary

Cyclists - This is particularily important for you to do!

4) Finally, always remember be aware, be polite, be safe and your experiences will be even more enjoyable!

Thank you and Have a GREAT Day!

RIDES

Seems as though I haven't been riding as much this year for one reason or another and cannot always blame the weather.

Have been on a couple great rides this year, one was in February in Palm Springs.

However, a freak storm started to come in which kicked up gale force winds the day of the ride and prevented us from completing the 62 miles we set out to do.  I was dissapointed because it was my first time doing this ride and wanted to experience the beauty of the desert via my bike.  Oh well, next time!

At any rate, we managed to put in 35 Miles and get FREE microdemabrasion, hahahaha!

This past weekends weather was fantastic and trekked out through the Presidio and over our beloved Golden Gate Bridge and back.  That was a tad challenging since the side that is usually open for Cyclists has been closed for a few months for repairs and preparation of the 75th Anniversary of the bridge.

The challenge wasn't the ride or the tourists trying to get that perfect shot of the bridge or city scape so much as it was dodging other cyclists who think they are
Lance Armstrong and can't bust their pace!

Honestly, I never understand these people, if they are so great a rider and want a challenge then:

1) go earlier and avoid the peeps 2) take another route 3) do us all a favor and be patient and polite.

Overheard, one of these very riders, who had been crowding me and then doing the same to the people in front of me say at the end, "that was painful."  To me what was painful was his cocky attitude and lack of road decorum!

Rude cyclist and people for that matter, who aren't polite is what gives us all a bad name!

At any rate, looks like it is going to be another beautiful day in paradise, so think I will try to get in a ride to prep for Santa Rosa this weekend (May 5th).

Happy Cycling and Remember ~ We all have to share the Road and Paths!

November 2. 2011 - Rip Curl Pro

Weather in the 70's today (incredible for November), rode my bike down for the 2nd day of the Rip Curl Competition. Was watching Round 3 Heats and it was announced Kelly was doing autographs. So bike and camera in hand, I went over to watch and catch some choice shots. I politely asked his security if he would sign my backpack and he said yes.
So, I handed over so Kelly Slater - 11th ASP World Title holder could sign my lowly backpack, Wow and YEE-HA!

Also, as he was leaving the Rip Curl club house, I got a shot of his trophy and he looked straight at me, Sweeeet!!
On his way out, he was continuing to autograph things for others; photogs and videographers were clicking away, when I realized I was standing behind him, I pray I am not in the pics, as I had on one of my ravishing biking outfits LOL He was so generous with his time, mellow and what a sweetie!

At any rate, an AWESOME day! Check that off my bucket list!!

Blessings do occur everyday and the best ones are those that we least expect! Thank you! :):)

Pics copyrighted by R. Lazear. Sorry this pic of Kelly is a bit fuzzy, I took so many pics with regular camera, I filled the chip up and had to quickly grab by cell phone camera Took TONS of pics and videos, working on posting ASAP!

Wine Country Metric Century May 6, 2011

Had a great time, except for Chalk Hill Road and my broken toe, but even the toe couldn't keep me down!

Weather, scenery, venue, people, and food were perfect. At times there was a bit of a head wind, but that actually felt good!

The Wine Country Metric Century is sponsored by Santa Rosa Bike Club. They are an amazing group and this is one of the best organized rides we've done. Will keep coming back year after year!!! Thanks for All You Do ! !

Ocean Beach's Future

The Master Plan Open House for the future of Ocean Beach in San Francisco was held yesterday, January 15, 2011 at the San Francisco Zoo Great Hall. It was very informative. http://www.spur.org/ocean-beach

It is not an easy solution as to how to address the erosion issues when you are dealing with man vs. nature, but strides are being taken to address this very task.

It seems that other communities along our Coast are also concerned, having the same issues and are looking forward to the future for viable solutions.

Thought this article was interesting inlight of the meeting yesterday for our beloved Ocean Beach's future...

Bike Handling Tips

FALL RIDING

October, in my opinion, offers some of the most beautiful scenery & weather. Even in San Francisco, where we have an over adundance of Fog and cold days, it's marvelous.

Indian Summer days are terrific for riding, enjoying nature and just clearing your head.

So, hoping that we will get more warmth & Sun before Winter hits us. It's always more enjoyable to ride when you're not all bundled up like an Eskimo and fingers feel like they're gonna snap off.

Happy Halloween!!!

Nike Women's Marathon - Sunday, October 17, 2010

Great Highway will be CLOSED from 4 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday 10/17/10.

So if you typically use Great Highway plan another route.

Thanks!

Street Closure - Nike Women's Marathon - 10/17/2010

It is now Friday, October 15th (2 days before the event) and no one including 311 can find information about which routes and/or streets will be closed during the Nike Women's Marathon.

Yes, the triangular signs with florescent lettering are tagged on the streets posts that state NO PARKING etc.. but do I see a single notice stating alternate routes or a closure of Great Highway? I am all for charitable events like this, since we a non-profit, community based group, but let's disseminate ROAD CLOSURE information better, there are those that need to get out of the city and go to work.... But, as usual, the agencies contracted or hired to inform the public can't because MTA hasn't updated their information and circulated to the powers that be (e.g. 311, Police Department etc...). And, frankly NIKE doesn't have anything on there website.

Let's prepare better for next year and post on all websites ROAD CLOSURES well in advance and not the night before or having to guess by looking at a year old article. And, make the NOTICE OBVIOUS. Should not have to hunt for information, it should be on the 1st Page.

Thank you!

UPDATE: Just received, Even Harding Park Golf Course can alert people to Road Closures but
not MTA or Nike Site - http://mail.aol.com/32797-111/aol-1/en-us/Suite.aspx

The Big RIDE

~ Our Team: Marjie, Rose, Renee, Bil (aka Dot) & Kathy ~

First, I want to thank every Member on Our Team who Participated and Supported this very important cause in Fighting to Find A Cure for Lung Cancer and Lung Related Diseases and For Clean Air by getting out the word, diligently fundraising, putting in countless hours, putting up with me, and helping me and others like me to Remember Their Loved Ones by supporting this Cause.

Next, we want to SINCERELY THANK EVERYONE who DONATED & SPONSORED us along this marvelous journey. You are our Angels and you were right there sitting on our shoulders Cheering Us On! Thank you from the bottom of Our Hearts!

Mere words cannot express how proud and appreciative I am to have you all in my Life!!!

Our Goal was to raise $2000 and to date we have all raised $1,900.00. We still are hoping to meet our goal and the Ride has given us the opportunity to do this by extending the Fundraising date to July 23rd. We have a few other donations coming in and I am confident that we will meet this goal and perhaps even exceed it!

Now that the Road Grime has finally been washed off and we have somewhat settled back into our everyday routine, but wish it could be like that scene from Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, again and again, we'll just have to settle for gearing up for next year and find something else to fill our days, like spending time with our friends and loved ones.

We had a wonderful day, the weather was perfect (light breeeze, temps in the high 70's to low 80's, next day was in the 100's), company marvelous, low traffic on the roads, no one was hurt, no leg cramps thanks to Zym, great music & food at the Festival and a good time was had by all!

Marjie had signed up for the 12 Mile leg & decided to try the 30 Miler & she did FANTASTIC. Now she'll have to do the 66 next year.

CONGRATS Marjie, you're a Road Warrior!

Kathy, Marjie & I will get Rose & Bil to do the 30 or maybe we'll shoot for the 100 (riggggght) so we can experience the pain together, hee-hee!
